MISSION Statement
Park Lawn’s mission is to provide services that promote choice and access to community living for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
Value Statement
The standard by which all policies, procedures, practices and advocacy shall be evaluated is embodied in the following question: "Would I willingly accept this for myself or any of my family members?"
We believe that individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities shall be afforded many and varied opportunities to explore, develop and master competencies equivalent to prevailing society. We ensure: that every individual be encouraged to seek choices which are real and appropriate; DIGNITY, where individuals are listened to and their thoughts and opinions valued; RESPECT, where choices are honored, self-esteem is promoted and consideration is given for abilities and differences; and INDIVIDUALITY, where we honor that part that makes each of us human beings with individual physical, psychological and social abilities and needs.
These beliefs guide us and are applied across our daily interactions with all Park Lawn members, including individuals with developmental disabilities, guardians, parents, staff and volunteers.
Focusing on individuality is the ongoing challenge of the Agency. Park Lawn believes in and acts upon fundamental principles of service to others as the guiding force of our daily interactions. These principles define us and form the methodology for our dealings with participants, family members, guests, funding sources, donors and all who meet us. These values are as follows:
•All people deserve dignity, respect and privacy
•We will act responsibly
•We will be consistent and fair
•We will work cooperatively with those we encounter
•We will provide a program consistent with best practice concepts within the field of intellectual/developmental disabilities
•We recognize diversity in terms of culture, age, gender, sexual orientation, spiritual beliefs, status and language
•We will promote self-sufficiency and independence
•We will encourage independent thought and choice
•We will provide the highest quality program
•We will advocate for the rights of people with disabilities
•We will provide opportunities to experience self-satisfaction
•We will spend funds wisely and efficiently

our Philosophy
We believe people with intellectual and developmental disabilities earnestly wish to live a normal life. They want to go to school; they want a job that truly needs to be done and for which they earn a paycheck; they want a full and active social life.
Vision statement
It is the vision of Park Lawn to provide the broadest range of quality program services and facilities possible to meet the changing long-term needs of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. As a private, non-for-profit community based agency, every attempt shall be made to elicit the support of similar providers, and all appropriate community public and private resources required to achieve the vision on both a progressive and cost effective basis.
Our ethics statement
In accordance with professional ethics, discussions with or regarding participants and parents are to be held in private and in confidence. Regard for the diagnosis or treatment made by professional colleagues or consultants must be held in confidence. All people with intellectual and developmental disabilities have rights as described in the Illinois Mental Health and Developmental Disabilities Code.
