Bingo Goes High Tech!
New Notebook laptops by Dell are now being used by Park Lawn bingo players. There are currently 24 computers available, but Park Lawn Bingo Coordinator Kathy Dehlin expects to add more in the future. Her goal is to eventually replace the entire bingo inventory of approximately 150 computers with the new Notebook laptops. The new computers have a larger screen, significantly improved graphics, and allow players to view multiple bingo cards at the same time. Park Lawn is the first bingo hall in Illinois to use this new technology.
It’s amazing how easy the laptops work. When the caller places a ball in the bingo machine a signal is sent via radio frequency to each laptop. The new computer automatically updates each bingo card and notifies the player when they have a winning card. This significantly increases the number of bingo cards that can be played by one person versus the manual use of dabbers. Most players are able to play 12-24 cards manually; with the new computers they are can play as many as 126 cards at a time.
Another exciting feature of the computers is the touch-screen capabilities. In the future the bingo community foresees the ability to chat amongst other bingo players online in a chat room. This means players would be able to “speak” to a player in another room or at another table, via the chat room. Dehlin also anticipates the ability for players to place orders for food, pull tabs, raffle games and more on their computer. Orders would be sent electronically to a volunteer working the system who in-turn would deliver the items directly to the player. The benefit of this feature is that the player never has to leave their seat, which could potentially increase revenues.
The feedback on the computers has been very positive. Players have commented on the clarity of the graphics and the ability to play other games such as solitaire on the computers before bingo starts and during the 30-minute intermission. Long time Bingo player Mary said that she won $500 while playing on the new computers and looks forward to future possibilities.
“We pride ourselves in offering our players the latest and greatest of what’s currently available in the bingo industry,” explains Dehlin. “It’s one more way we separate ourselves from other bingo halls in the Chicagoland area.”
Park Lawn holds bingo every Friday, Saturday and Sunday, 52 weeks of the year. Join the fun and excitement – you could be the next winner!
