Meet Nicole...

Nicole, 25, of Crestwood represented her team and country at the Special Olympics World Summer Games in Ireland. She is one of two athletes from Illinois who competed in artistic gymnastics as a part of Team USA. Nicole trains and competes in Special Olympics through Chicago Park District’s Mt. Greenwood Park. She competes in several sports including figure skating, bowling, athletics, floor hockey, softball and bocce. Her local coach is Lisa Mulcrone, the therapeutic recreation coordinator at Mt. Greenwood.
Nicole trained privately with Lisa one day a week at McKinley Park and another day with the whole Mt. Greenwood team at Daley Gymnastics Center. She also did powerlifting each week for strengthening and conditioning. Nicole trained for the all-around competition. According to Lisa, Nicole always goes the extra step – even when it hurts – to try to do her best. Nicole’s parents Pat and Judy Composono, her sister, Tricia, brother Tony, Lisa and two other coaches from Mt. Greenwood, and other relatives and friends went to Ireland to see Nicole compete.
Nicole is a 1998 graduate of Elim Christian School in Palos Heights and works at Park Lawn, a workshop in Oak Lawn. She loves being with friends, watching old movies especially musicals, family parties and Italian food.
